Dr. John Walton
Dr. John Walton is an Old Testament scholar and professor known for his work on the relationship between the Bible and the ancient Near East, particularly in the study of Genesis and biblical theology. After initially pursuing a degree in economics and accounting, Walton’s vocational path changed when he discovered the importance of archaeology and cultural background studies for understanding Scripture, leading him to earn a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Cognate Studies from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Following two decades of teaching at Moody Bible Institute, he joined Wheaton College, where he has continued helping students and readers engage more deeply with the Old Testament and its cultural world. Walton has written extensively on Genesis, science and faith, Job, and Daniel, and is widely respected for making complex biblical scholarship accessible to the church and broader public.
